Often, we think of calling as “the voice coming down from heaven in thunders”. That might be the case for Paul on the road to Damascus. For many of us today, calling is to be discovered one day at a time. While the specific calling of each differs, generally for all believers, it is written in His revealed will, the Bible : To love God with all our mind, heart, and strength. To love as Christ has loved us. To be a city set on a hill.

For me, where my passion, giftings and the world’s deep needs meet, is in the realm of social justice . Though I don’t see the specifics of what exactly I will do or how to get there, I do know that when God promises, “I know the plans I have for you, to give you a hope and a future" (Jer 29:11), His plans are many to bring us to the purpose He has for us.

Often, we find ourselves comparing others’ highlight’s reels with our “behind-the-scene” process. We lust over those entrusted to a big company, while we are only teaching 5 students. Or we may envy those who has freer time to follow their passions while we are working hard to provide. The grass might seem greener on the other side, but..

What if what matters in God’s eye is your heart, not the achievements you can present to Him. It’s a mistake to think you can bless God with your money or power. God is not a God who cheer us on only when we are “good enough”. Even when we were still sinners, He loved us anyway. The '“badges of honor” we can collect is not what He is after. He wants your heart. It’s about choosing to do it all unto Him. It’s the faithfulness in the little things.

Calling is embracing your present season. Calling is being called to Himself.

He promotes and demotes as He wills. Wherever you are now, you are called to remain faithfully. It is here that God is preparing you for your next season of increase. For King David, he was in the pastures before he was in the palace. There is the process.

The process is necessary so that, when the time comes, no one can rob the glory rightfully His.

OBEDIENCE TO HIS REVEALED WILL

How often do you present God with a list of wish-list, more than you do worship Him. You might spend 5 years asking for it, but only 5 minutes thanking Him for it. Rather than complaining to God about things we don’t know about, obey the last command you know that God has spoken to you. Obedience to His revealed will is essential to the discovery of more truth.

Where is He calling you to hone your gifts? Where can you be more faithful to His leading?

Hold the vision. Trust the process.

May it be our prayer and anthemWhatever my lot, Lord, teach me to be content. Take the world and give me Jesus!”
